Understanding who you are trying to talk to on social media and in digital marketing is vital. You must know your audience.

What do they like? Why do they like it? When do they like to see it? And Where?

These are questions you need to answer to help you plan your social media strategy, as the wrong piece of content in the wrong place to the wrong people will just be a waste of valuable time, and money!

Creating audience ‘personas’ is one way to give you chance to think exactly who your digital marketing target audience is. While you may like one thing your audience may like something different, and it’s they you are trying to engage with. Publish content for them, not you.

Try also using analytics, which are generally integrated in social media and digital marketing platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, or go more in-depth with software and apps like Google Analytics, Social Bakers, Agora Pulse or Sprout Social. Some are free, some come at a cost.

Analytics can give you loads of data about who your followers are, where they live, which languages they speak, and how they interact with your brand on social media. These insights allow you to refine your strategy and better target your social ads.
